Hornes Country Buffet on South Irby Street in Florence closed its doors Sunday after 52 years in business.
The restaurant's owner says revenue was down and she didn't have anyone to help run the eatery.
About 15 people worked at the restaurant.
One of the employees said they found out about two weeks ago they would be out of jobs.
She says the restaurant has been a way of life for so many of the workers for years.
Hornes head cook had worked there for more than 40 years and a waitress for more than 30 years, according to employees.
They say this is a hard blow for them because they've got to find other jobs and file for unemployment benefits.
Many people stopped by Hornes Monday not knowing it was closed.
"I was extremely disappointed. I been coming here for years and the food was great. So now, I've got to find some place else to eat," said Donnie Eaddy.
"Very hurt. Because they sold some good food," Vera Askins said.
The owner says the hotel that adjoins the restaurant will remain open.
Many hope someone will buy Hornes and reopen it.
