Polls are now open in the runoff election for the Horry County council chairman seat left vacant when Congressman Tom Rice won the 7th congressional district race.
Mark Lazarus received nearly 41 percent of the vote in the primary election.
Because no one candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote, a runoff between the two candidates who received the most votes, Mark Lazarus and Al Allen, was needed.
Al Allen received 24.47 percent of the vote.
Only Republicans filed to run for the chairman's seat.
Because no Democrats ran, the winner of the runoff election will likely be the next Horry County Council Chairman.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
