Police say drunk man drove stolen tractor on interstate

Timothy Bessant

A man was arrested last month after police found him driving a stolen City of Conway tractor while intoxicated, according to Conway police.

Around 1:30 a.m. October 3, South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested Timothy Bessant, 48, of Conway, for Driving Under the Influence after he was found driving the stolen tractor down Interstate 95 near Latta.

A Tiger 360 Heavy Duty Flail Mower was also attached to the tractor, according to police.

The tractor was towed and impounded at the Truck Service Center of Florence.

That same day around 8 a.m, Conway police were notified that a mowing tractor that was parked on New Road overnight was stolen.

City of Conway Street Department employees told police when they returned to their job site, the 2008 JD-6415 John Deere tractor with City of Conway decals and ST-25 stenciled on the hood was missing.

It's about 52 miles from where the tractor was reported stolen to where police found Bessant.

On Monday, Conway police were notified that the tractor was impounded in Florence.
