Police: Report of shooting inside Myrtle Beach bank a hoax

Myrtle Beach police were called to Sun Trust Bank on 48th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach just before 3 p.m. for a report of a shooting, but now it appears to be a hoax, according to Capt. David Knipes with Myrtle Beach police.

The report was that five individuals with long-armed rifles were inside the bank and shots had been fired.

Police surrounded the bank and eventually entered the building. They determined no one inside was hurt or injured.

A similar call came into police in Knoxville, TN around 1:05 p.m. that four robbers with shotguns were at the Suntrust Bank there, according to our affiliate WATE.

Both the Myrtle Beach Police Department and the Knoxville Police Department are investigating as to whether the two incidents are connected.
