Jarrett Washington, 20, has been charged with Ill Treatment of Animals after he didn't get any medical help for his dog, and the animal died, according to Major Carlos Raines with Florence police.

Police went to Washington's home on Pawley Street Tuesday afternoon and found the dog's decomposing body in the backyard.

Raines said Washington admitted that he knew the dog was sick and even saw it dead in the yard, but just left it there to decompose.

Washington is being held in the Florence County Detention Center.
