Police lift school lockdown but still searching for suspect

Kingstree police have lifted a lockdown at Anderson Primary School on Anderson Street after reports of an armed man walking near the school Wednesday morning.

Chief Eric Williams says they issued an alert to other law enforcement asking them to be on the lookout for an armed man.

He says they have a description of the man, but can't release it at this time.

Williams says when the initial call came in around 11:45 am Wednesday, officers immediately locked down the school to ensure the safety of students and faculty.

"Whether the threat is inside or outside we respond the same. We will definitely increase our patrols in our school areas. I'm all about being proactive and not reactive, " said Chief Williams.

He says a few parents picked up their kids following the lockdown, but that's to be expected.

Williams assures parents their children are safe and officers are around the school.
