Police investigating deadly shooting in Bennettsville

UPDATE: Bennettsville police are investigating the shooting death of a Charlotte area man.

A Charlotte area man found shot to death on Everette Street in Bennettsville has been identified as Pete Purvis,42, according to Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown.

Officers say a neighbor called 911 after hearing a gunshot on North Everette Street in Bennettsville around 5:15 Sunday morning.

Police arrived and found Purvis lying on the ground outside of a home.

Lieutenant Larry Turner says it appears Purvis had just gotten out of his car when he was gunned down.

Turner says Purvis is a native of Bennettsville, but had been living in Charlotte for many years. "At this time, there is no motive. Seem to be the type of individual that minded his own business. And didn't cause any problems. He was down visiting friends," said Lt. Turner.

He adds they are questioning witnesses and possible suspects. "We have several individuals that we're looking into."
