Police investigate deadly stabbing in Murrells Inlet

Horry County police detectives are investigating a homicide on Van Buren Road near Murrells Inlet, according to Sgt. Robert Kegler.

Someone called EMS about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday about a suspicious death. EMS called police when they got there. Police have not said who called EMS.

The victim is Chris Nance, 44, said Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

It appears Nance died after being stabbed multiple times, Kegler said.

According to Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Williard, as of Tuesday evening, the autopsy results are still pending.

Nance's father Paul Nance opened Nance's Restaurant in 1968.

According to Murrells Inlet native Robert Thompson, the Nance name is legendary. "They harvested it, they cooked it, they served it, I mean they controlled the oysters."

The Nance family does not own the restaurant anymore. "They pretty much got out of the restaurant business with the economy falling apart," said brother-in-law, Reese Hair. "It just got real tough, food costs and all that."
