Police arrest man for shoot-out, recover AK-47

Lake City police went to a home on Ash Street Wednesday to arrest Charles Spates, 28, for a shoot out with security guards at Carolina Girls Club on Sands Street and say they found an AK-47 assault rifle and a small handgun in the home.

No one was injured in the shootout, which happened last weekend.

Spates is charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime, Possession of a Stolen Gun, and Felon In Possession of a Weapon.

We're told Spates could face federal weapons charges because he is a convicted felon.

Spates is being held in Lake City for now, but is expected to be taken to the Florence County Detention Center where he will have a bond hearing at a later time.
