Petition seeks to name bridge after slain officer

Jeremiah Goodson

An online petition has garnered 2,167 signatures to name a bridge in memory of Lumberton police officer Jeremiah Goodson,33, that was shot and killed July 17 while trying to serve a warrant to 27-year-old Marques Brown.

Brown is charged with first degree Murder in Goodson's death. He remains in jail without bond.

The petition was started by a Fayetteville police officer.

He wants to have a bridge under construction at Exit 22 near the intersection of Interstate 95 and U.S. 301 named the "Master Police Officer Jeremiah M. Goodson Memorial Bridge."

The North Carolina Department of Transportation will review the request for consideration.
