23-year-old Pennsylvania man turns himself after hit-and-run in North Myrtle Beach
North Myrtle Beach, S.C. (WPDE) —
A man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run that seriously injured a 67-year-old woman earlier this week.
23-year-old Derek William Dorman, of Harding, Pa., turned himself in to North Myrtle Beach Police around noon on Friday, according to city spokesman Pat Dowling.
Dorman has been charged with hit-and-run with great bodily injury and another charge is pending for use of a vehicle without consent, Dowling said.
An arrest warrant alleges that Dorman was driving a 2011 Kia Soul when he hit a pedestrian "causing her great bodily injury" and then didn't stop, remain at the scene or call police.
The woman sustained multiple fractures to her leg, requiring extensive surgery and her injuries could result in permanent impairment or dis-figuration, the warrant says.
Dorman and the damaged car were found by police the day after the crash and, according to the warrant, the man admitted to hitting something and not stopping.
