Pee Dee churches come together to help tornado victims

A group of Pee Dee churches is coming together to help the families devastated by last week's tornado in Florence.

The Pee Dee Baptist Church Association Disaster Relief Squad is giving away food, clothing, and other supplies to the families.

Last Tuesday, an EF-1 tornado hit Rosewood Mobile Home Park in Florence County near Quinby and destroyed 12 homes.

Parishoners say they wanted to extend an act of kindness to those in need.

"We're here to help in any endeavor that God has commissioned us to move in to be of need to the people... to be of help to the people," said Samuel Fulmore, with the Pee Dee Baptist Association.

The association is comprised of 12 churches.

They plan to host another event for the tornado victims in the coming weeks.

The Florence County Emergency Management Office applied for federal aid, but the damage didn't meet the criteria.
