Pawleys Island family seeks answers in teen's death

The family of a Pawleys Island teen shot to death earlier this year is asking for answers.

On May 25, 18-year-old James Earl Richardson Jr. was shot and killed near on Parkersville Road. His body was found on the side of the road.

Those who knew the young man called him "Scoopy", and the news of his death spread quickly.

But the person responsible for shooting him and the reasons why are still unclear.

"I never thought anybody would have done this to him because he was such a sweet person," said Richardson's grandmother Albertha Richardson.

"It's not about being snitched on," said cousin Shaquana Richardson. "This is somebody's son, brother, cousin, grandson, nephew."

The Georgetown County Sheriff's office says Scoopy's death is an active homicide investigation. At this time there's no suspect or any additional information, which leaves a family searching for justice.

"Nobody was around to help him that's really a hard part," said Albertha.

Investigators with the county sheriff's office are asking anyone with information about Richardson's death to call them at (843) 546-5101.
