Parents accused of giving 4-month-old alcohol causing infant to die

Nikki Turner

The State Law Enforcement Division has charged Huey Locklear and Nikki Turner with Homicide By Child Abuse seven years after the death of their 4-month-old son.

The couple knowingly allowed the infant to ingest an alcoholic substance on April 11, 2006, which ultimately caused his death, according to the arrest warrant.

Agents arrested them last Friday.

SLED says the incident happened at a home on Moccasin Bluff Road in Dillon County.

The infant's toxicology report proved the child had a high level of ethanol in his blood, which resulted in cardiac arrhythmia and subsequent death, according to the warrant.

Officials with the Dillon County Sheriff's Department say SLED's Special Victims Unit investigated this case.

The unit handles child fatality and vulnerable adult investigations.

We have asked SLED why it took seven years to bring charges against Locklear and Turner.

The couple is being held in the Dillon County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing before a circuit court judge.

If convicted, Locklear and Turner face 20 years to life in prison.
