Man charged in connection with deadly hit and run in Robeson County

One person died and one person was arrested after a hit and run Sunday night on Evergreen Church Road in the Burnt Swamp community just outside of Lumberton, according Trooper R.D. Wright with N.C. Highway Patrol.

Paul Locklear, Jr. is charged in connection with a hit and run that killed 24-year-old Kent Oxendine, Wright said.

Wright said Oxendine was walking in the world with dark clothing on when he was hit by Locklear's car.

He added Locklear did not stop, but kept driving.

Wright said troopers found pieces and parts from the car on scene and found the car early Monday morning.

He added a blood test didn't find any alcohol in Locklear's blood.

He's being held at the Robeson County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
