One injured after car crashes, overturns in Conway swamp

One person has been taken to the hospital after a car crashed and overturned in a swamp in Conway.

According to Selena Small with Conway Police Department, the wreck happened around 10:08 p.m. near 1700 Church Street and Crab Tree Swamp.

Conway police and Horry County police both responded to reports of a vehicle collision and a vehicle overturned in the water.

Horry County Fire Rescue was also on scene.

Small said one person was rescued and had to be taken to the hospital.

ABC15's Eddie Kadhim spoke with two men on scene who said they saw the crash and jumped in the swamp to save the person in the car.

Despite not knowing each other before the crash, the men said they worked together in an attempt to reach the driver of the overturned and submerged car.

They said they just wanted to help others the way that they hope they and their families would be helped if they were in a dangerous situation.

"First thought that came into my mind was, 'That could have been my family there' ... The only thing you can do is save a life--do everything you can to save a life."

Small said the crash remains under investigation.
