One dead in motorcycle wreck in Myrtle Beach

Highway 17 Bypass northbound between Mr. Joe White Avenue and 21st Avenue North was shut down due to a wreck involving a motorcycle and an SUV that left one person dead and sent another to the hospital in serious condition, according to Capt. David Knipes with Myrtle Beach police.

Thomas A Weeks, III, 43, from Blacksburg, VA was confirmed dead on scene and the woman on the motorcycle, was sent to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in serious condition, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard.

Police say it appears the 3-wheeled motorcycle was in the northbound lanes on the bypass when it crossed over into the southbound lanes, went airborne and slammed into the front windshield of the SUV.

The man and woman on the motorcycle are from Virginia and the man and woman in the SUV are from Maryland.

The people in the SUV were treated on scene and are expected to be OK.

Police say nobody stopped to say what had happened and they are asking anyone with information to call Myrtle Beach police at 918-1382.

The northbound lanes on the Highway 17 bypass at 21st Avenue are now open.
