One dead after argument leads to shooting in Robeson County

One man is dead and his brother is in jail after an argument resulted in a shooting Saturday night in Robeson County.

On Saturday, Robeson County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to reports of a shooting on Dewitt Drive in the Parkton area, according to a news release.

When deputies arrived, Gary Darel Pone, 25, of Hope Mills had been taken from the scene in a vehicle by friends to the hospital in Lumberton.

Pone died on the way to the hospital on Interstate 95.

According to the release, witnesses said that Gary Pone had assaulted his girlfriend while at the Dewitt Drive home. His brother, Kewathian Pone, intervened and the two were pushing each other.

Witnesses said Kewathian Pone pulled out a gun and shot his brother during argument.

Kewathian Deshawn Pone was arrested on May 24 and charged with First Degree Murder.

He is in the Robeson County Detention Center under no bond.
