Man in custody in North Carolina in case of woman found dead in car with small child
Columbus County, N.C. (WPDE) —
Horry County police say a North Carolina man has been taken into custody in connection with the case of a woman found dead in a car with a small child.
On August 15, emergency crews responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle around 12:30 a.m. on Carolina Road, located off of Highway 9 near the North Carolina state line between Nichols and Loris.
Responding officers found a Honda Accord parked at the corner of Church Road and Carolina Road, according to a police report.
Officers found the victim and a small child in the car. According to the police report, the woman had been shot.
EMS and investigators were called, and the child was taken to the ER.
Investigators soon began investigating the incident as a homicide.
The victim was identified as Latosha Nicole Lewis, 31, from Tabor City, N.C. She was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight, according to Deputy Horry County Coroner Tony Hendrick.
As of August 25, one man has now been taken into custody in connection with the case, according to Krystal Dotson with HCPD.
That person has been identified as Jakeem Bryant, 27, of Tabor City, N.C.
Dotson said HCPD has warrants for Bryant's arrest, which include murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.
He is currently being held in Columbus County, N.C.
