NRC gives Robinson Nuclear Power plant a "green" review

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission says the Robinson Nuclear Power Plant, operated in Hartsville by Duke Energy, operated safely in 2012, according to its annual safety assessment.

The NRC uses a color coded system to assess plants. A green rating means that inspection findings and performance indicators at the plant had a "low safety significance."

The NRC staff will present the findings at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Hartsville Public Library.

"The NRC inspects nuclear plants and monitors their performance on an ongoing basis," said NRC Region II Administrator Victor McCree. "We issue inspection reports throughout the year and we hold these annual meetings near each plant to discuss our oversight and answer any questions local residents might have."
