A North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Officer was arrested and booked for Driving Under the Influence on Friday according to North Myrtle Beach Public Information Officer Pat Dowling.
William Norton has been with the department for about 10 years, Dowling added, and was off-duty at the time of the incident.
Norton was booked on Friday at 11:55 a.m. according to the J. Reuben Long Detention Center's website.
Norton was driving his patrol car, which Dowling said he is allowed to take home because it is outfitted for Norton's work as a K-9 officer. He was not on his way to or from work.
Currently, Norton is on restricted administrative assignment. He has turned in his badge and patrol car and has no law enforcement authority, Dowling said.
Internal affairs will handle the investigation.
