According to the Horry County Coroner's Office, the woman in the RV who was killed is Eve Sullivan, 70, from New Hampshire. The pilot's identity still has not been released. We expect that between 10am and 12noon Wednesday.

North Myrtle Beach spokesman Pat Dowling says the local pilot, who has not been identified, was practicing "touch and go" landings at the Grand Strand Airport when the plane crashed into an RV park, killing the pilot and a woman in an RV.

Dowling said, "This could have been mechanical failure. We don't know at this point."

Dowling said crash investigators from the FAA will be examining the scene to try to find out what happened. We have spoken to the NTSB and an investigator from that agency is on the way to the crash scene as well.

Though several RVs were parked closed by, none of the others were seriously damaged.

Risen Christ Lutheran Church and School are close by. The pastor said the kids were shaken by the event, but otherwise OK.

The single-engine plane also hit a trailer and destroyed a pick-up truck.

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge says he won't be releasing the names of the victims until Wednesday morning.

      Previous story:

North Myrtle Beach spokesman Pat Dowling tells NewsChannel 15 the pilot and a woman in an RV died in the plane crash Tuesday at the Briarcliff RV Resort.

Dowling says the single-engine plane came down right on top of the RV. There was a couple in the RV. The wife was killed, according to Dowling. He says the husband was taken to the hospital with burns.

Dowling says the pilot was a local person who was coming in for a landing at Grand Strand Airport in North Myrtle Beach. His identity has not been released.

One other person was burned, but refused treatment for minor injuries.

Various eyewitnesses reported the engine of the plane sounded like it was struggling.

HCFR: Plane crashes in Briarcliffe Acres, kills 2

Horry County Coroner Robert Edge says two people have died in the plane crash at the Briarcliffe Acres RV resort. He says he's not sure if the people are from the plane or the trailer that was hit.

Gayle Moore, a NY resident staying in a motorhome next to where the plane crashed tells NewsChannel 15's Joel Allen that she thought she heard a motorcycle engine sputtering and then a crash. She looked out her window, saw the flames and took off.

Joel says the plane hit a trailer and destroyed a pick up truck.

The entire number on the tail of the plane is not visible to us, so it's not clear yet what type of plane crashed.

Just after one o'clock Tuesday afternoon, a plane crashed in the area of the Briarcliff Acres RV resort, according to one of Horry County Fire Rescue's battalion chiefs.

More than one motor home was hit and at least one trailer.

Officials have not said what type of plane they're dealing with.

Crews from Horry County and North Myrtle Beach are responding. NewsChannel 15 has a crew on the way to the scene.

A first responder also on the way said he saw smoke as he passed Myrtle Beach Mall.

Emergency crews are unable to give any further details at this time and we will post more information as soon as we have it.
