NMB: former public safety director no longer a city employee

The City of North Myrtle Beach addressed questions that have recently surfaced about the employment status of former public safety director William Bailey.

The City of North Myrtle Beach issued the following statement on Saturday:

"Mr. William Bailey is no longer an employee with the City of North Myrtle Beach effective Friday, April 30, 2010."

Bailey has been on administrative leave since January, after he said the glove box of his truck was locked when his service weapon was stolen from it. But the box doesn't have a lock on it.

On January 27, Bailey was demoted to the rank of Lieutenant and stripped of his position as director.

Bailey told NewsChannel 15 on Saturday that he had not personally received any confirmation from the city on his employment status, even though city officials had issued the statement announcing that he was no longer employed.
