Nightmare sparks investigation that leads to a 13 year prison sentence for man

Maurice McKenzie

A circuit court judge sentenced Maurice McKenzie, 61, to 13 years in prison after he was convicted on two counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct Second Degree with two young girls.

McKenzie pled guilty to the charges following jury selection for his trial Monday, according to Shipp Daniel with the Fourth Circuit Solicitor's Office.

Daniel says the Dillon County Sheriff's Office arrested McKenzie last year following an investigation into the allegations.

He says one of the girls had a nightmare about what had been happening to her and told her parents that McKenzie had been molesting her.

The other child also came forward, according to Daniel.

The girls, now ages 10 and 17, were as young as eight when the molestation started, Daniel said.

The SC Attorney General's Office assisted in this case.

McKenzie has to serve 85% of his prison sentence before he is eligible for parole.
