Near drowning in Horry County pond

Pond where woman drowned Friday evening/Whitney Gramling

Horry County police are investigating a near drowning in the Myrtle Beach section of Horry County.

According to Lt. Keith Strickland, a woman was trying to swim across a retention pond when she went under the water.

The incident happened at a pond at the intersection of Canal Street and Osceola.

Lt. Strickland said police got the call just after 8pm Friday.

As of Saturday morning, Lt. Myron Creel says the woman is on life support.

It happened near a wooded area where a lot of homeless people are known to camp.
