National Guard troops head to Afghanistan to provide medical support

Sixty soldiers from the 251st Area Support Medical Command, S.C. National Guard, deployed from Darlington, Wednesday.
The soldiers are physicians, physician assistants and health care specialists who will provide combat health services in Kabul and Parwan provinces.
The ceremony was held at the Darlington National Guard Armory and was attended by friends and families of the soldiers.
The Adjutant General for South Carolina, Major General Robert E. Livingston, Jr., addressed the troops.
The soldiers' deployment is expected to last one year.
