Charity Legette, 25, of Myrtle Beach, faces four counts of willfully assisting in the preparation of a fraudulent return and four counts of forgery, according to a release from the SC Department of Revenue.
She was arrested Thursday.
Legette knowingly provided her accountant with fraudulent W2 forms, between 2009 and 2012, which were used to file state individual income tax returns in her name, according to DOR spokesperson Samantha Cheek.
Legette requested state tax refunds totaling $3,227 to which she was not entitled, Cheek said.
Legette is out of jail on bond. She could face up to 55 years in prison or fines.
