Myrtle Beach police pay tribute to fallen officer

Tonight, friends and family of a Myrtle Beach police officer killed in the line of duty, will gather to remember him.

Six years ago Monday, December 29th, Officer Joe McGarry was shot and killed by Luzenski Cottrell.

McGarry was questioning Cottrell in a Myrtle Beach parking lot, when Cottrell shot him.

Cottrell was convicted in the Spring of 2005 and sentenced to death.

He's now appealing that sentence.

Myrtle Beach police will hold their annual memorial service Monday night at 5:30 at the Myrtle Beach Law Enforcement Complex on Oak Street.

The public is welcome to attend.
