Myrtle Beach police arrest serial robbery suspects

Surveillance of robbery suspect at Holiday Shores Hotel

Myrtle Beach police arrested two people Tuesday in connection to a recent string of armed robberies within the city limits.

Detectives think the man and woman in custody are connected to six armed robberies at area hotels and cash advance stores between July 27 and August 9.

Around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, a Myrtle Beach officer spotted a car fitting the suspect vehicle description and then stopped the vehicle on Broadway Street.

The two suspects were taken into custody and interviewed by detectives Tuesday night. Police say the woman acted as the man's accomplice in the robberies and acted as a getaway driver.

The suspects' names and photographs are not being released until detectives can show photo lineups to the robbery victims.

"We don't want to compromise the ongoing investigation until (the lineups) are complete," said Detective Tony Allen.

Allen said search warrants were being obtained for the car where several items of interest were believed to be.

Allen would not confirm whether the gun seen in the surveillance video of the robberies was found.

The robberies began July 27th with the robbery of clerks at a hotel and a cash advance store. On July 31th, the robbers struck again at the Check Into Cash. On August 4th and 5th, there were armed robberies at the Holiday Shores hotel and the Sun Fun Motel. The final robbery happened August 9th at the Boardwalk Beach Resort.

The suspects could be formally charged on Wednesday when their names would be released.
