Myrtle Beach officer hit by car overnight

A Myrtle Beach police officer is expected to be okay after being hit by a car, according to LCpl. Sonny Collins with Highway Patrol.

Collins said Officer David Giosa was investigating a wreck around midnight on U.S. 17 Bypass at the entrance to Broadway at the Beach.

Collins said a patrol car was blocking a lane of traffic while officers investigated.

Collins said Tammie Deliberti, 25, of Myrtle Beach hit the patrol car, hit the officer who was on the shoulder and hit an unoccupied car that was in the previous wreck.

She was arrested and is being charged with Driving Under the Influence, according to Collins.

Deliberti is being held in the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.

He said the officer is expected to be fine and was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating and expects to release more information Monday afternoon.
