Myrtle Beach man pleads guilty to child pornography charges

Ronald Periera

A Myrtle Beach man who was arrested June 26 on child pornography charges pled guilty to those charges last week.

Ronald Periera, 45, of Myrtle Beach, pled guilty to two counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Second Degree and 10 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Third Degree on August 5, according to Mark Powell of the South Carolina Attorney General's Office.

Periera was sentenced to two years in jail, forfeited his computer and has to register as a sex offender, Powell said.

Powell said Periera was charged after an investigator from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office downloaded fifteen video files containing minors engaged in sexual activity from an Internet Protocol (IP) address in Horry County that was being used by Pereira.

Powell said an investigator from the Horry County Sheriff's Office searched Pereira's residence and seized electronic equipment. A forensic examination of Pereira's computer revealed 56 videos of minors engaged in sexual activity.
