Myrtle Beach International Airport sees increase in passenger numbers in May

The number of passengers that arrived into the Myrtle Beach International Airport in May is up 6 percent over last year.

According to a release from the Horry County Department of Airports, this May 97,008 passengers arrived into the airport, an increase of 5,529 over May 2013.

Year-to-date the airport is also up in terms of arriving passengers, according to the release.

From January through the end of May the airport saw 312,723 passengers arrive, an increase of 6.5% of this same period in 2013.

"The number of passengers arriving into the airport, exceeds all other May's on record," said Pat Apone, director of airports, in the release. "Year-to-date passenger traffic at the Myrtle Beach International Airport is strong and the Department of Airports is optimistic that the trend will continue through the remainder of the 2014 season."
