Motorcycle and car collision shuts down Kings Highway

A motorcycle and car collided on Kings Highway at 27th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach about 10:15 Thursday night.

Two people on the motorcycle were taken to the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle was making a left hand turn onto 27th Avenue North from Kings Highway and pulled out in front of a motorcycle, according to Captain David Knipes with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

He said the driver of the motorcycle laid the motorcycle down and both he and his passenger suffered severe injuries to their left leg.

They were taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and are in critical condition.

The driver of the car was cited for failure to yield.

The highway was shut down for more than an hour as emergency crews worked the scene.

As a reminder, the Fall Bike Rally in Myrtle Beach is going on through Sunday, which means a lot of motorcyclists are on the roads. Police ask that drivers of cars and motorcyclists watch out for each other.
