Motel guests evacuated in Myrtle Beach fire

Myrtle Beach firefighters are investigating the cause of a motel fire.

The fire started just before 10 a.m. Wednesday at the White Sands Motel on Kings Highway, between 8th Avenue North and 7th Avenue North.

It started in a storage facility at the two-story motel, according to Battalion Chief Ian Maxwell with the Myrtle Beach Fire Department.

The hotel had to be evacuated for about an hour.

Maxwell adds the fire appears to be accidental at this point.

There is damage reported in the storage facility.

Traffic on Kings Highway was diverted for a short time, but is back to normal.
