Marion County was awarded an additional $100,000 from the state on Saturday to fix drainage problems off of Milton Troy Avenue in southwest Mullins.
The money is in addition to a $500,000 grant awarded from the from the state two years ago.
Clogged ditches fill with water whenever it rains leading to flooding and major problems with mosquitoes and snakes, according to residents.
Residents say they've tried for 13 years to get the problem fixed and they're excited they've finally got help.
At a community meeting Saturday, it was announced that work to expand the ditches and enlarge pipes so the water can flow freely throughout the area will begin in the next week.
