Men plead guilty in burglary of pistol packing grandma's house
Nelson Hawkins, 42, pleaded guilty Monday to Burglary Third Degree in a break-in last July at the home of Ruby Hodge of Blenheim.
His three-year prison sentence was suspended to the ten months he served in jail, according to Fourth Circuit Assistant Solicitor Mia David.
The mastermind of the robbery, Ronnie Stevenson, 31, received a five-year prison sentence for the crime, David said.
The 89-year-old Hodge saw the burglars in her hallway, grabbed her pistol and scared them away.
She then pressed her lifeline button that hung around her neck. It alerted 911 and within five minutes, several Marlboro County deputies were at Hodge's home.
The great-grandmother received a prestigious award for her bravery from the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office.
She passed away in October, shortly after her 90th birthday.
