Memorial Day Parade and Family Picnic held Saturday in Myrtle Beach

As part of its Military Appreciation Days, the City of Myrtle Beach is hosting two events Saturday to honor our military.

At 10:30am, the Memorial Day Parade will begin on Ocean Boulevard at 27th Avenue North and continue south to 9th Avenue North. There are about 90 entries in the parade.

Rocky Bleier is the parade's Grand Marshal. Bleir is a Vietnam Veteran, a four-time Superbowl champion, and a former Pittsburgh Steeler running back.

Recruits for the US Air Force and US Army will carry a gigantic American flag, and two Vietnam-era helicopters that have been featured in the NBC television show Revolution will be in the parade.

Following the parade, from 11:30am - 2:30pm, the city will host a Family Picnic at the old Pavilion site at Ocean Bouelvard and 9th Avenue North.

At the picnic, you can sample MRE's (the military's Meals Ready to Eat), eat food from the Omar Shriners, meet Rocky Bleier, and enjoy live music from the Andrew Thielen Big Band.
