The Maryland Zoo is asking the public to help name a new resident before her official debut at the facility.
A female bald eagle arrived at the zoo in Baltimore recently from National Aviary in Pittsburgh. Zoo officials said the eagle was found in North Carolina in June 2009 and despite rehabilitation efforts, was deemed unable to survive in the wild.
The eagle is under mandatory quarantine, but is expected to make her public debut later this month. She will be housed in the Polar Bear Watch section, where other birds such as ravens and snowy owls also live.
Voting will start Friday and continue through July 14 at www.marylandzoo.org/eaglename. The names are: Scout, Sioux, Migisi (Chippewa for eagle), Annie and Vega.
