A new development is planned for The Market Common area of Myrtle Beach, where the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base used to be.
Monday, the city planning commission took a tour of the area to get an understanding of where the roads and houses could go.
A development for the area off Farrow Parkway near the Backgate was planned about ten years ago, but Centre Pointe fell through.
Then, it was expected to be a mixed-use development.
But the new owner wants to make the area mostly residential.
"Things like traffic patterns change, impact to the property changes, much of the tax base change," said Allison Hardin, a planner with the city.
The planning commission will make suggestions to city council, which will have the final say on the development.
