Marion County man pleads guilty to unemployment insurance fraud

has pleaded guilty to insurance fraud and must now pay more than $10,000 in fines
according to the SC Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW).
Jonathan Waiters, 29, pleaded guilty this week to one count of making a false statement or misrepresentation with the intent to defraud DEW.
DEW investigators and South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson say Waiters received unemployment benefits from November 2008 to February 2010, even though he had a job during that time.
Waiters was sentenced to three years in priso
n which was suspended to time served. He was placed on probation for five years. While on probation, Waiters must repay DEW more than $10,000 in restitution. In addition, he was ordered to pay a $1,500 civil penalty to the state.
