Marion community mourning loss of beloved preacher
Marion, S.C. (WPDE) —
The community of Marion is mourning the loss of Bishop R.F. Davis who passed away earlier this week following an extended illness.
He served as the head bishop of Greater Highway Church of Christ in Marion.
The church is considered to be a pillar of the community.
Bishop Davis built 15 churches from the ground up and brought in a number of affiliationg churches along the eastern seaboard of the United States, Jamaica, and Nigeria, Africa.
He also made strides in the business world with a nationally syndicated radio talk program, radio station and a funeral home.
The "Daviston Subdivision" in Marion is named in his honor.
His family says Bishop Davis lived his life by the old song he so often loved to sing and quote, "If I can help somebody as I pass along, my living shall not be in vain".
Funeral will be held next Friday at the Greater Highway Church of Christ in Marion.
