Man killed in brush mower accident

Officials on the scene of the fatal accident involving a bush hog

A man was killed Monday morning while operating a brush mower off of S.C. 707 and Sonny Boy Lane, according to Battalion Chief Stacy Roberts with Horry County Fire Rescue.

Willie E. York, 70, of Myrtle Beach, has been identified as the man killed in the accident, according to Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendricks.

Roberts said the man was killed when he was either run over by the mower or caught in it in some way. He said the investigation to determine how that happened is ongoing.

A brush mower is a rotary mower often used to clear land.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol also responded to the scene and the incident was listed as a fatal collision on the Highway Patrol website.
