Man involved in standoff with police after domestic situation

Horry County police are still on the scene of a standoff on Hunting Bow Trail Road off Forestbrook road near Myrtle Beach.

A woman took off from the home after a dispute with a man who then barricaded himself in the home, according to Lt. Robert Kegler with Horry County police, the woman was never considered a hostage.

Police have been on the scene since just after midnight.

We are told the man is armed.

Police have made contact with the man, and a negotiations team and SWAT officers are on scene. The State Law Enforcement Division arrived around 9:30 a.m. The Myrtle Beach Police Department has sent in two negotiators to help.

Four housed in the immediate area have been evacuated, Kegler said.

People in the surrounding area were escorted as necessary so they could leave for work and school.

As school buses arrive to bring children home from school, police will escort them in, he added.

Three code red messages have been sent to people in the immediate area so far. The first two were to warn of an active standoff situation, the third was to let people know officers would be escorting buses in the immediate area as they drop kids off from school.

We have a crew on scene and will continue to post updates.
