Man dead after being stabbed in the neck, ruled justifiable homicide

Derrick Moore, 41, died at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center of a stab wound to the neck, according to Horry County Coroner Robert Edge.

The stabbing happened Wednesday night just before 10 in Socastee and the incident has been deemed a justifiable homicide, according to Lt. Robert Kegler with Horry County Police.

Officers were called to a residence on Maypop Circle for the stabbing and found Moore with a stab wound to his neck.

Moore was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives with the Horry County Police Department's Major Crimes Unit began the investigation, which revealed a fight took place between Moore and a woman.

The victim told officers she was assaulted and was being dragged and hit in the face multiple times, according to a release.

After seeing this, a juvenile grabbed a knife and stabbed Moore while trying to protect the victim, according to Kegler.

As a result of the investigation, officials determined that the homicide is justified.

There will be no charges in this case.
