Horry County police have charged Christopher Evon Smith, 30, of Little River, with Murder in connection with the shooting death over the weekend of Cortland Gore, 25, of North Carolina.
On Saturday night around 8:30 p.m., police responded to intersection of Highway 701 and Highway 22 in Horry County in reference to a shooting.
When officers arrived, police found Cortland Gore, 25, had been shot while driving.
Detectives say Gore paid Smith counterfeit money for drugs, so Smith followed Gore and fired several shots into his vehicle, killing him, according to Horry County police.
The second person in the car with Gore, Aaron Lee Campbell, 40, of Raleigh, North Carolina, was able to get out of the car without injury. But Campbell was later arrested and charged with Forgery less than $10,000, for his involvement in the counterfeit bills, police said.
Smith is awaiting a bond hearing before a circuit court judge. He's being held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
Campbell was granted a $25,000 bond under the condition that he wear an electronic monitoring device.
