Man charged with murder after Myrtle Beach hotel shooting

Robert Ware, 53, has been charged with murder in connection with an overnight shooting at the Wave Rider Resort, according to Captain David Knipes with Myrtle Beach Police.

Knipes said the shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. Thursday on the third floor of the hotel on the 1600 block of South Ocean Boulevard.

Randy E. Banks, 49, was pronounced dead at the resort, according to Horry County Coroner Robert Edge.

Edge said Banks suffered a single gunshot wound and an autopsy will be conducted Friday in Charleston to confirm the injuries and cause of death.

Police were looking for Ware for a few hours Thursday morning. He was eventually found off Pridgeon Road, according to Knipes.

Ware will now be booked into the Myrtle Beach Jail.

No date for a bond hearing has been released at this time and police say the investigation is ongoing.

The Wave Rider Resort was also the scene of another shooting in May during Memorial Day weekend. Two people were injured in that incident.
