Darrick Dines has been charged with Reckless Homicide and Voluntary Manslaughter in a wreck at the intersection of Main and Everette Street in Bennettsville on May 3.

Leverne Pauling was killed in that wreck.

Officials with the Fourth Circuit Solicitor's Office said Highway Patrol's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) determined Dines was speeding 15 miles over the speed limit when he intentionally ran a stop sign and crashed into two cars.

Dines' girlfriend was a passenger in his car and she remains in the hospital, according to officials.

Prosecutors said Dines was arguing with his girlfriend and is believed to have been speeding to scare her.

He's charged with Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature for his girlfriend's injuries.

Magistrate Judge Robert Stanton denied bond for Dines Tuesday due to the seriousness of the charges he faces.

Dines can request bond at a later time. He is being held at the Marlboro County Detention Center.
