Michael Portilla, 29, of Myrtle Beach, was arrested on child pornography charges, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced Thursday.
The Horry County Sheriff's Office, a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, made the arrest.
On July 16, deputies assisted Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a federal partner of the ICAC Task Force, in executing a search warrant at Portilla's home.
Officers observed multiple images on a computer in the home showing children engaged in sexual activity.
Portilla, who immigrated to the United States from Costa Rica several years ago, was arrested and charged with one count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor third degree, a felony offense punishable by up to ten years imprisonment.
A computer and multiple computer-related items were seized for forensic analysis.
Portilla was assigned a $10,000 surety bond, and released.
The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office.
