Man arrested for trying to set two men on fire

Tony Miles

Pamplico police charged Tony Miles with Attempted Murder after police say he tried to set two men on fire.

Chief Steve Bowen says Miles got into an argument with the men, that turned into a fight last Saturday.

Miles left and came back an hour later armed with a gas can, police say.

Chief Bowen says Miles told the men he was going to burn them to a crisp. Miles doused the two men with gas and pulled out a lighter to burn them when one of the men wrestled the lighter out of Miles' hand, according to Bowen.

A woman saw what was going on and flagged down a Pamplico police officer.

He took statements from all involved. Miles was arrested Wednesday night following an investigation.

He's being held at the Florence County Detention Center.
