A man and a woman have been arrested for lying to police about a stabbing in Marlboro County, according to Marlboro County Sheriff Fred Knight.
Ricky Singleton Mumford Jr., 34, of Blenheim is charged with Attempted Murder and Conspiracy and Use of a Weapon during the Commission of a Violent Crime.
Sarah Crowley Liles, 32, of Latta, is charged with Conspiracy, Filing a False Police Report of a felony and Accessory After the Fact to a Felony.
The arrests are in connection to a stabbing on Highway 38 South in Blenheim on July 5 at a residence where Mumford lives.
Liles was also living there at the time.
Liles reported to deputies that her estranged husband went to the house and assaulted her and Mumford, then repeatedly stabbed and cut himself, according to a press release.
Deputies gathered evidence that night that suggested the information reported to them was false.
They continued investigating for weeks and talked with witnesses. Deputies determined Mumford was actually the offender.
They said Mumford stabbed and cut the estranged husband multiple times.
The victim drove himself to the hospital.
The investigation revealed that Liles helped Mumford lie to law enforcement about what happened that night, and even moved a vehicle and tried to cover up evidence, according to the release.
Liles and Mumford were arrested at a residence in Dillon County last week.
